Description & Educational Objectives:

Patient Centric Practice

This program is the first in a series of educational sessions, designed to elevate the entire dental team as a key partner in care. This interactive workshop emphasizes the interdisciplinary approach to ultimate patient care. Understanding your customer is critical to creating a successful practice. More importantly, defining your practice and developing strategies to achieve your ideal day is what it takes to go from “good” to “great.” Patients have many options when choosing a dental provider, and differentiating your practice is essential to surviving a challenging economic environment. Collaboration among the dental team is elementary to create a positive and lasting patient experience.

Define your practice clinical philosophy.
Identify effective patient centered communication strategies.
Differentiate your practice from the competition, your value proposition.
Identify and develop strategies to achieve your ideal day.
Understand the impact interdisciplinary care plays in a positive customer experience.

Interdisciplinary Approach to Early Disease Detection

Oral health is a part of total health and early detection is key when treating any disease process, particularly in the treatment of periodontal disease. Assessment is paramount, increasing treatment options for patients and managing expectations. Collaboration among the entire dental team is essential to align a clear clinical philosophy with predictable treatment outcomes. Identifying candidates sooner than later to keep their dentistry and smile looking greater longer requires an increased level of communication by all members of the dental team. A highlight of this program will emphasize the true interdisciplinary approach between the specialist and restorative practice utilizing case review and evidence based treatment planning.

History and evolution of periodontal disease and influence of the oral microbiome. Differentiate between health, gingivitis, active disease and maintenance.
Establish a decision tree for management of non-surgical and surgical therapies. Understand the role each team member plays in the interdisciplinary approach. Implement key communication strategies for successful case presentation. Review of current literature.

The Implant is Restored, Now What?

Dental implants are now the standard of care for patients with missing teeth. As the number of cases increases, it is essential to communicate ideal dental care following implant placement. The dental hygienist is often recognized by the patient as a trusted mentor and a go-to once a patient faces treatment options. This course emphasizes the hygienists role in pre-, intra- and post-treatment to minimize infection and potential complications. Evidence based decision making including safety and efficacy of instruments used in maintenance will be discussed. This presentation will review current literature on instrumentation as well as biocompatibility of materials on titanium and zirconia surfaces.

Identify basics of implant types and components.
Understand biocompatibility of materials related to implant maintenance. Understand the current literature on proper instrumentation and maintenance. Develop a decision tree to evaluate health and disease around dental implants. Identify potential complications and risks in pre- and post-operative care.
